Plagiarism Policy
Environmental Health Engineering and Management Journal (EHEMJ)
The Environmental Health Engineering and Management Journal (EHEMJ) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity in scientific communication. Plagiarism—in any form—is considered a serious breach of scholarly conduct and is strictly prohibited. This policy aligns with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org ) and applies to all submissions to EHEMJ.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
- Using another person’s ideas, processes, results, or words without proper attribution;
- Presenting another’s work as one’s own;
- Copying substantial portions of text (verbatim or paraphrased) without citation;
- Self-plagiarism: reusing significant parts of one’s previously published work without clear reference or quotation;
- Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.
All authors must ensure their submissions are original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.
Plagiarism Screening
All manuscripts submitted to EHEMJ are screened for textual similarity using iThenticate (https://www.ithenticate.com ). A similarity index above 30% will generally result in immediate rejection. However, the Editorial Office reserves the right to apply qualitative judgment—particularly for technical sections (e.g., methods, standards, or regulatory descriptions)—where overlap may be unavoidable but properly cited.
Actions Upon Detection of Plagiarism
- Pre-publication: If plagiarism is detected during peer review, the manuscript will be rejected immediately. The author(s) will be notified and given an opportunity to respond. Failure to provide a satisfactory explanation within two weeks will result in:
- Blacklisting of the author(s);
- A five-year ban on submitting new manuscripts to EHEMJ;
- Post-publication: If plagiarism is identified after publication, EHEMJ will:
- Initiate an investigation in accordance with COPE guidelines;
- Retract the article from all journal platforms and indexing services;
- Clearly mark the retracted article with a notice linking to the original source;
- Inform the author’s institution and funding body (if applicable).
Author's Responsibilities
Authors are solely responsible for ensuring that:
- All borrowed content (text, data, figures, tables) is properly cited;
- Copyrighted material is used only with written permission from the rights holder;
- Their work complies with international ethical standards and EHEMJ’s policies.
